La autora propone una nueva etnografía de Internet basada en el estudio de hechos mediáticos concretos, donde la red juega un papel, por un lado, de instancia de conformación cultural y, por otro, de artefacto cultural construido sobre la comprensión y expectativas de los internautas. Asimismo, analiza las nociones, exageraciones, mitos, significados e implicaciones de la “vida en la Red” demostrando que ésta no trasciende las nociones tradicionales de espacio y tiempo, sino que, mediante la barrera del offline/ online, general múltiples órdenes en ambos campos. Finalmente, refuta el argumento post-modernista de que Internet es un lugar donde, inherentemente, no tienen cabida ni la identidad ni la autenticidad.
