"This eye-popping page turner hits on all levels and will keep you up way past your bedtime...A coming of age thriller with imagination, guts, and soul." --EcoLit Books "Here we have a Huck Finn for our environmentally damaged age, lost on a river, and moving downstream with humane monsters and monstrous humans. We Are All Crew is hilarious and sad, slapstick and grotesque, fantastical, phantasmagorical, but never, ever just child's play." --Marlon James, author of A Brief History of Seven Killings "Two fourteen-year-old boys embark on a cross-country boat trip that becomes a romp through social anthropology in this hilarious, picaresque novel. But don’t be fooled. Landauer’s observations are as searing as they are funny, and each new twisted and isolated archipelago of a community they encounter resonates in its absurdity like a vision of the near future. We Are All Crew is a coming-of-age story for the boys, but perhaps, if we can channel Landauer’s camouflaged optimism and his biting humor, for America as well.” --Tim McLoughlin, author of Heart of the Old Country "The conjuration of an articulate risk taker has spun a tale and created a world infused with politics, 'correctness,' and irony that is witty and intelligent. Taking on serious subjects--environment, deforestation, global warming, and partisan hypocrisy--while addressing the various social networks, apps, video games, and rock-star super-shows, is a lot to handle. But Bill Landauer rises to the task to create a wonderful read. Just sit back and enjoy." --Rashidah Ismaili, author of Autobiography of the Lower East Side Two fourteen-year-old runaways hell-bent on reaching California end up aboard the Tamzene, a mysterious riverboat that runs on alternative fuel. Piloted by the enigmatic Dr. Seabrook, the Tamzene travels the waterways of a bizarre, fun-house image of the US. This is a satire that questions the sanity of our basic principles, as Gulliver's Travels did for eighteenth-century England.

SPECIAL SALE PRICE THROUGH D-DAY! Combat Crew is one of the best memoirs about the air war over Europe ever written. John Comer kept a journal of the twenty-five missions he flew in 1943 when the casualty rate on his base was close to 80%. After each raid Comer gathered the crew together and pieced together the air battle from a 360-degree perspective. His book is handwritten history, recorded within hours after the battles occurred. Comer vividly creates his experiences as top-turret gunner/flight engineer in a B-17 Squadron that was thrown against the best pilots the Luftwaffe could offer. In 1943 the Germans were more experienced than the Americans and the Army Air Force had no long-range fighters to protect the B-17’s as they flew deep into enemy territory. That Comer survived is a testament to his crew’s skill and his luck; his 533d Squadron (8th Air Force, 1st Division, 381st Group) lost three out of every four men on combat status during the six months Comer flew his first twenty-five missions. Comer’s powerful narrative is devoted to the men who flew the planes, dropped the bombs, and fired the guns. Their everyday life was filled with terror, friendship, and fatigue. Comer recorded it all in his diary. The reader shares the fears of flight crew as they wonder if their heavily loaded bomber can actually lift off the runway. Many planes didn’t make it. Then there are the freezing temperatures in unheated planes--63 degrees below zero with the bomb-bay doors open and 200 M.P.H. winds blowing through the aircraft. There are missed targets, faulty equipment, red-hot shrapnel from antiaircraft fire, and what it was like to look German fighter pilots in the eye as they barreled in with cannons blazing. Above all, there is the horror of watching friends being shot down on every bomb run--no matter how “easy” the mission might have been. Immediate, straightforward, compelling, Combat Crew is destined to become a classic of aerial warfare.

Red Crew is a first-hand account of U.S. Coast Guard anti-smuggling operations during the early years of the nation’s maritime war on drugs. Jim Howe describes his experience as the executive officer of a specialized drug-hunting crew that sailed in then-state-of-the-art “surface effect ships,” a small flotilla of high-speed vessels pressed into the drug war on short notice. In the early 1980s, South Florida and the Caribbean were awash in illicit drugs, with hundreds of smuggling organizations bringing huge loads of marijuana, and later cocaine, into the United States. To fight this epidemic, the Reagan administration led a massive effort to disrupt shore-side gangs while bolstering interdiction activity at sea. To increase the number of days at sea for each surface effect ship, a “multi-crewing” concept was employed, with four teams of sixteen sailors—the Red, Blue, Green, and Gold Crews—rotating among three hulls. Through its first-person narrative, Red Crew offers a rare glimpse into the day-to-day pressures, challenges, failures, and successes of Coast Guard cuttermen as they carried out complex and dangerous missions. Red Crew provides a unique historical view of the early days in the Coast Guard’s war on drugs, and is the only book-length history of the diminutive, one-of-a-kind surface effect ship fleet.

Mother Earth is calling for help, but her children are not listening. The four horsemen of apocalypse are fast approaching, created and driven by our actions and greed. As we think we understand all now when we can wield the four elements: water, earth, air and fire. We have lost the balance of order and chaos, as we have forgotten once again the important intangible elements: harmony, symphony, serenity and love. With four can glory can be shown and with the other four passion achieved, when combined all the peace is found and truth can be discovered. All great civilizations on earth have ended for the same reason, so will the current one, but never so far has there been a global civilization before this one. Our egoism and dualistic thinking will open the path to apocalypse and it will start on December 21, 2012 if we do not stop it! The first question is: to be or not to be? the second is: to do or not to do? the third is: to believe or not to believe? - Chimie In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act. - George Orwell Is this the One Male Nostradamus prophecies? "You never know what's going to save you." After years of dingy nightclubs and drug addiction, John Albert and his hard-luck friends certainly never expected their salvation to arrive in the form of a pastime most often associated with Mom, God, and apple pie. Wrecking Crew -- a highly unusual chronicle of recovery and redemption -- documents the transformation of a group of musicians, struggling screenwriters, and wannabe actors into a competitive band of hardballers. For over a decade, it seemed to be enough: the narcotics, gambling, whores, and aimless rebellion. But as they stumbled into their thirties, the blithe pursuit of self-destruction had simply become exhausting to these battle-scarred denizens of the L.A. counterculture. The romantic squalor of being perpetually broken-down, periodically drug-addled, and irresponsible began to lose its charm. The idea of fielding a baseball team to compete in a hard-knocks amateur league seemed merely the latest in a string of half-hearted stabs at restoring order to their ragged lives. But this escapade was different. When these men donned their team uniforms, the old obsessions started to fade and something incredible began to happen. This is the unforgettable story of the Griffith Park Pirates.
